Seat belt really saves

something real about seat belt and it is a true story

one of my doctor friend was fined for over speeding and
and for not wearing a seat belt
he was fined 160 USD for speeding ( he was doing 160 kms ) and 20 USD
for not wearing the seat belt ; he argued with the traffic police saying that he was rushing to the hospital to see an emergency case.

when he was driving at 160 Kms , I was sitting next to him with seat belt on my chest and butterflies in my stomach ; he even asked me that i must give witness in his favour if asked for ;
the matter went to the magistrate;
our friend gave the same excuse

the magistrate excused him for speeding to save a life
but fined him with 180 USD for driving without a seat belt and risking his life
by not wearing a seat belt; and said that he can be fined to a maximum of 220 USD
this happened in Ciskei , an independent homeland in South africa

this doctor friend of mine started wearing seat belt from that day
after two months ,on a late night , his car summer salted thrice , he broke totally 8 plus 4 , 12 ribs , thoracic level spine fracture ,had bilateral pneumothorax , but was not thrown out of the car because of the seat belt;the car alfa romeo was a written off on the spot

his chest drain on both sides saved his respiration ,and he was air lifted to groote schueer hospital, later on operated on the spine and a rod was fixed for stabilising the spine fracture

His legs were saved from the impending paralysis and he came back after 6 months
driving his own second hand automatic Jaguar from capetown to umtata ( nearly 1000 kms ) all by himself

the South african professional building society and his insurance company paid him for his car damage , health expenses , loss of pay leave period.
